    This is very sad, all the baby dolphins and now this baby whale. The feds and/or state officials will probably blame it on "cold weather" or something.

    It was NOT a baby sperm whale. It was an adult PYGMY sperm whale, which is far less exciting.

    The sperm whale is extremely endangered.... but I guess everything in the Gulf is now. :(

    And now Congress is about to strip EPA funding even further and nix the Endangered Species Act to fix the "budget" when they commence debates on 2/28. Send a message to your leaders!--

    Check any Environmental group--Sierra Club, Defenders of Wildlife, The Wilderness Society--you name it to get more info and forward e-letters ASAP!!

    We will most likely never know cause as so many deaths of animals. I read a while back that most reports of necropsy for animals have privacy rights too. ! forensic cause-of-death analyses are governed Veterinary Practices Act, which the animal equivalent of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
