Berms fail in Florida after washed away by tide; Entire project on hold as BP’s oil comes ashore

Due to the weather, cleanup crews in Walton County didn't hit the beach Tuesday morning...

The county's project to berm the beaches remains on hold, the release states.

Many of the berms built over the weekend were washed away by the tide. Officials will weigh changes to the plan.

The county also plans to order a Beach Tech 2000, a beach-cleaning machine in use in Pensacola.
