Today, the Times-Picayune reports "BP is working to increase its ability to contain oil that could be released from its runaway Gulf of Mexico well, even though it hopes to shut the well down permanently."
From BP's Senior Vice President Kent Wells' July 27, 2010 technical briefing:
I'd like to cover four things today – our well integrity test, relief well, static kill, and build-out of additional containment. ...
In terms of further build-out of the containment.... we're now in the process of freeing up -- from a [simultaneous operations] perspective -- the ability to continue with the build-out of containment in case, in some event, that we had to go back to containment, we would be positioned to do so.
