BP says two mile stretch of oil sheen in Alabama “NOT related to the Deepwater Horizon incident”; Cleanup needs 40 workers, 16 boats


With well sealed, Alabama's beach leaders hope for late-summer tourism rally, Press-Register (Alabama), August 7, 2010:

[E]vents Friday showed that the cleanup is far from over.

Work crews spent six hours collecting a long, narrow oil sheen... according to [a] Coast Guard spokesman... More than 40 workers and 16 boats joined in the cleanup..."People said they spotted an oily sheen about 6 inches to a foot in width and spanned two miles up the bayou," [the spokesman] said.

It was unknown Friday afternoon where the oil came from or how much leaked into the water, [the Coast Guard] said... More than 35 garbage bags of soiled boom and pads had to be hauled away...

BP spokesman Justin P. Saia confirmed Friday there was an "oiled water incident"... [and] that the oil "was not related to the Deepwater Horizon incident," but did not elaborate.
