"Wal-Mart is discontinuing the sale of fresh seafood in its Florida superstores, a Florida agriculture official told a panel looking into the economic impact of BP's massive oil spill on the state's economy," the Palm Beach Post reports. The decision is blamed on a "drop in demand".
"Whole Foods already has stopped buying and selling seafood from the gulf, even from waters that are deemed safe for fishing, said Russ Benblatt, spokesman for Whole Foods markets in Florida," the Post reports.
"Red Lobster, the nation's largest seafood purchaser, also recently pulled oysters off its menu."
UPDATE: The Palm Beach Post changed the article 22 hours later, adding a Wal-Mart spokesman said "not all" of its seafood counters at Florida stores will be closed.
