“Field” of weathered oil found on Mississippi beach — BP cleanup chief says it’s “actually getting pretty close to clean”


Efforts continue to clean islands hit by Gulf oil spill, McClatchy Newspapers, January 7, 2011:

A field of dried, brown tar balls on the east end of Horn Island on Friday had once been a large sheet of oil...

"We clean the same area four or five times," [Steve Mangum, head of Mississippi island cleanup for BP] said. ...

"Horn is actually getting pretty close to clean," Mangum said, "the west end more than the east end."
