Oil Washes Ashore Again At Grand Isle, WDSU, January 5, 2011:
The mayor's office said tar balls are coming ashore on Elmer's Island and sand dollar-sized patches of oil are washing up in Grand Isle.
The environmental group Louisiana Bucket Brigade said it was the worst instance of oil contamination since the BP oil spill.
Officials said crews are cleaning the beaches, removing the oil with shovels and scrubbers.

Could it be that the situation is getting worse?
They can plug the pipe with cement but the pipe being eaten away by the metal eating virus will undermine the efforts. A unobstructed flow to the ocean from the reservoir that would increase as pipes are dissolved. Not to mention the cracks they try to grout repeatedly. Just a guess !
...the new synthetic algae does eat carbon---and i would wonder a bit about the effects on carbon enforced steel etc.
I suspect hydrates.
The dispersant eats oil --so the effect on petroleum based products and plastics paints, adhesives, etc?
i also suspect that it eats through the plastic bags that they are collecting it (oil/corexit by products) in and dumping furthur inland in the local landfills. I assume it to be leaching into the local water supplies.IMHO.

.... little news...
We live in a carbon based world and make plastic's made from oil.

You said, "i also suspect that it eats through plastic bags that are collecting it (oil/corexit by products)....
An excellent point! I'd love to know where they're taking the waste? You're probably 'right-as-rain' -- they take it to the dump.
xdrfox: You said, "We live in a carbon based world... "
Yep. Babies are munching on rubber pacifiers, drinking from plastic bottles, eating from plastic plates and using plastic utensils, sitting/playing in the tub on rubber bath mats, playing with plastic toys....
At the least children, adolescents, teens, and young adults should be using glass where possible.

Residents outraged: BP dumping oily waste in Gulf landfills … http://stream.adamdodson.org/items/view/2984
The Board of Supervisors in Harrison, Mississippi passed a declaration saying they don't want any BP waste in their community but there is little they can do. BP has cut deals with Waste Management, the owners of the landfill. They answer to the state instead of local county government.
"We don't want it," President of the Board of Supervisors Connie Rocko told CNN's Randi Kaye. "It is valuable landfill space and hazardous to our citizens. Take your waste somewhere else or please find an alternative."

Does anyone know if the Louisiana National Guard has been deployed over-seas?
Our bodies are 18% carbon.Has there been any testing to see if this synthetic algae could become an "invasive species"?
I know someone who collected sample of the water foam and within a week had a odd growth on the palm of his hand now !! He has removed the hardend area many times and it continues to grow back ?? He said the mixture was on his hand for a few hours before he washed his hands after the collection, he only used the one hand to collect in a jar and carried the wet exterior back to his vehicle grasped in his hand. I told him it problely was unrealted.

The True Green Energy Group (tgeg) are sitting pretty. They have a unique method to dispose of hazardous waste, and I'm afraid, we'll have to pay for it -- if they can get a contract for the safe disposal of the waste collected from the Gulf of Mexico. But of course, we get to pay for it with the VAT. Heck! The world gets to pay for it.
I'm so angry I'm spinning. And look down yonder. BP is skipping down the road, just whistling and smiling, with a fishing pole draped over it's shoulder. BP is munching on penny candy and I feel like that candy is us.
I'm so angry I'm spinning! And I'll tell you something else. If BP comes back through here, I got myself a ferocious broom, and that sucker is gonna need to stir-up-some-dust in order to get away from me -- or my broom.

More money in clean up then pumping oil !

There are a couple of troublesome points about a Constitutional Convention: We are only 2 states [if I recall correctly] are from approval, but this was close to 3 years ago. I don't like it, and I especially don't like it in our present political environment.
Plus there are too many people who have political power [Obama] that are in agreement to topple the Constitution of the United States. Bit-by-bit. Period. If we lose our Constitutional rights conveyed by God and our forefathers -- we lose all that we have achieved and aspire to. We were a great nation, and we need to return to our sovereign principles.
Congress is a pack of thieves: Their personal behavior is so despicable and unlawful that their souls-are-for-sale.
The 'big wigs' threaten to expose them if their votes go-the-wrong-way, so they will vote according to the 'big wigs' wishes. And of course, congress will provide the 'big wigs', and themselves, with what our hard-earned money has placed on our dinner table. They barge in by kicking down the door and kick us out as though we're a pack of wild, salivating dogs.
In the meanwhile, they're willing to kill Grandma so she cannot eat even the crumbs from the meal she so carefully prepared for all of us to enjoy now, and herself after everyone else has eaten.
I don't believe the dispersants "eat" at all. What they may do is break the oil down into smaller molecules. Everything is still there in the water, and as we recall, more toxic than before because corexit is far more toxic than crude oil.
I guess we could just say that the oil was changed in detection only. Before, it was visible mostly, in plumes and tarballs. Now, although the oil is still present and in unbelievable amounts -- in the Gulf, and as far away as Europe, only it's appearance has changed.
It's like our shadow: We may not perceive a dangerous person waiting for us behind the edge of a building, but -- on a sunny day, if we're lucky, we will see his shadow and know that he is there.
The oil is still there and it will be for centuries.
