The Florida Keys Keynoter reports on a forum of Marine experts in Key West about the BP oil disaster in the Gulf who warned against “declaring victory far too soon.”
The Keynoter reviews some statements by the experts:
- NRDC analyst Ali Chase said, “There is much we do not know about the path and fate of the submerged oil plumes and what the future will hold.”
- NRDC Ocean Initiative Director Sarah Chasis said that the government’s numbers from the ‘Oil Budget’ mean about 100 million gallons of leaked oil remain, “Clearly, a lot of this oil is still in the Gulf environment… that’s nine Exxon Valdez spills.”
The article adds, “The effects of dispersed oil in the water column are still uncertain.”
