PART II: MS Dept. of Marine Resources samples oysters FARTHER from coast: “Disappointing” & “Surprised” at number of deaths

DMR samples oyster reefs for second day, Biloxi Sun Herald, September 2, 2010:

"A lot of the samples today were disappointing as well," [Scott Gordon, director of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources shellfish bureau] said Thursday after exploring an area farther out in the Sound. ...

Gordon said he was surprised to see the amount of oyster mortalities, even though he would have expected to see some oyster deaths after weeks of hot, still weather this summer. Samples taken in June did not show as many mortalities, he said.
