Nuclear power defender now says “I think we are facing another Chernobyl”

Analysis: Even nuclear defenders begin to have their doubts, March 17, 2011 at 6:23 pm EST:

Even the most ardent defenders of nuclear power are starting to admit the situation in Japan looks bad. …

On March 14, the Wall Street Journal carried an opinion piece from author William Tucker condemning those who were expressing concern about nuclear safety when there was the full devastation from the earthquake and tsunami to focus on…

On Thursday, Tucker told Reuters the situation had changed since his article.

“I think that story probably has to be revised, we seem to be in deeper water now than we were originally,” he said. “I think we are facing another Chernobyl now or something on that order.” …

The more we find the truths in this the more we know it’s going to amount on what we find out, not what the Main media news will tell you.
One source will never be enough knowledge !

  • xdrfox

    Can’t believe what I read…

So far, radioactivity has been detected on six people, whose faces and hands were wiped clean, the report said.

    wiped clean ????????

  • Davin

If the spent rods catch fire… THEN it will be Chernobyl. If they can maintain cooling the releases will be limited to radioactive steam. We will see.

  • xdrfox

Much more here then Chernobyl, this is 4 that have blow and 2 with cracked cases and there are 40 years worth of spent rods on site that have been exposed from water in tanks and or expelled into the atmosphere from explosions and 2 reactors have been using Plutoniums a highly dangerous mix, that have never before been an accident from releasing many types of isotopes never before in these quantities and and the tonnage of radio active materials is a lot more then Chernobyl that was ONE reactor that blew off 1/4 it’s top killing over a million people in the last 25 years and still being quited by them that make $$$ off of selling the ideas of Nuclear fuel being Cheap and Safe. Also you might be one of the Gov.’s new sock puppets from social media to make the world think everything is honky dory. Pretend everything is OK. !00 of thousands of The People of Japan are going to die from this and cancer rates around the world WILL sky Rocket in near years to come just as they did during the 80’s after the Chernobyl blast but multiplied many fold. I suggest people stay in doors for a few weeks because the bad stuff here that will kill you fast if you breath it can NOT be picked up with a gager counter, it is Alfa wave. At least if you go out wear a mask and shower when returning. Nof said !

  • xdrfox

Chernobyl’s one reactor blew the top of it off 1/4 of, then burned itself into the earth, was on fire for 1 day and smoked for 5 more before cement was used to cover it and the hole as it burned it’s way into the earth saving the earth inhabitants from even more horror ! If 1 million souls and counting is saving ! Cancer rates are up 2,000 % since Chernobyl.

Anyone wonder why the fertilization clinics are so busy these days ?

    Hey xdrfox

Stop panicking like an idiot and spreading rubbish.

Radioactivity inside the plant has gone down from 400 mSv to 280 mSv / hour today.
Radioactivity 20 miles away is only 0,17 mSv, which is 2000 less in only 20 miles distance.
This will have zero impact in the US.

In may 1986 radioactivity was 10000 times lower in France than what was measured in Chernobyl plant and it is now 10 million times lower than what it was in 1986.

Potential fall-out in the US is currently far below that of open-air nuclear trials of the 50s and 60s.

Hey AFU, got some shrimp and crabs for you – fresh from the very safe waters of the Gulf of Mexico. You may season them with plutonium if you like. That’s safe too. Trust me, I’m from the government and I am here to help.

  • xdrfox

Not panicking, it’s just the facts.
This is about a coolent tank…

Unable to shed much heat, the concentrated radioactive slurry continued to increase in temperature within the defective 80,000 gallon containers. On 29 September 1957, one tank reached an estimated 660 degrees Fahrenheit. At 4:20pm local time, the explosive salt deposits in the bottom of the vat detonated. The blast ignited the contents of the other dried-out tanks, producing a combined explosive force equivalent to about 85 tons of TNT. The thick concrete lid which covered the cooling trench was hurled eighty feet away, and seventy tons of highly radioactive fission products were ejected into the open atmosphere. The buildings at Chelyabinsk-40 shuddered as they were buffeted by the shock wave.

While investigators probed the blast site in protective suits, a mile-high column of radionuclides dragged across the landscape. The gamma-emitting dust cloud spread hazardous isotopes of cesium and strontium over 9,000 square miles, affecting some 270,000 Soviet citizens and their food supplies. Over twenty megacuries (MCi) of radioactivity were released, almost half of that expelled by the Chernobyl incident.

A report compiled in 1991 found that the incidence of leukemia in the region had increased by 41% since Chelyabinsk-40 opened for business, and that during the 1980s cancers had increased by 21% and circulatory disorders rose by 31%. It is probable, however, that the true numbers are much higher since doctors were required to limit the number diagnoses issued for cancer and other radiation-related illnesses. In the village of Muslyumovo, a local physician’s personal records from 1993 indicated an average male lifespan of 45 years compared to 69 in the rest of the country. Birth defects, sterility, and chronic disease also increased dramatically. In all, over a million Russian citizens were directly affected by the misadventures of the Mayak Chemical Combine from 1948 to 1990, including around 28,000 people classified as “seriously irradiated.”

    To xdrfox (extra-radiated fox?)

These are *not* “facts”. It’s sheer idiocy to sell frightening stuff when reality is a light-year from that. Risk in the US at the present stage is zero.

Apparently the current level of radiation in Tsukuba (Ibaraki) north of Tokyo is about 0,2 mSv / h.
That’s indeed too much for them, people should be evacuated.

When that stuff has crossed the Pacific, there remains only one thousandth of it, or maybe even less, …

  • xdrfox

I am not selling anything, the facts of the past are evident !
If you can not read the FACTS then you are indulging in sheer idiocy !

level change with the wind and condition of whats being emited from 4 reactors and fuel coolent tanks.

rognosis is initially estimated by the time between exposure and symptoms, the severity of those symptoms, and by the lymphocyte count during the initial 24 to 72 h.

Ionizing radiation is emitted by radioactive elements and by equipment such as x-ray and radiation therapy machines.

    Types of radiation: Radiation includes

High-energy electromagnetic waves (x-rays, gamma rays)
Particles (alpha particles, beta particles, neutrons)

Alpha particles are energetic helium nuclei emitted by some radionuclides with high atomic numbers (eg, plutonium, radium, uranium); they cannot penetrate skin beyond a shallow depth ( 2 cm), where they collide with the nuclei of stable atoms, resulting in emission of energetic protons, alpha and beta particles, and gamma radiation.

Gamma radiation and x-rays are electromagnetic radiation (ie, photons) of very short wavelength that can penetrate deeply into tissue (many centimeters). While some photons deposit all their energy in the body, other photons of the same energy may only deposit a fraction of their energy and others may pass completely through the body without interacting.

Because of these characteristics, alpha and beta particles cause the most damage when the radioactive atoms that emit them are within the body (internal contamination) or, in the case of beta-emitters, directly on the body; only tissue in close proximity to the radionuclide is affected. Gamma rays and x-rays can cause damage distant from their source and are typically responsible for acute radiation syndromes (ARS—see Radiation Exposure and Contamination: Acute Radiation Syndromes [ARS]).

    Take a deep breath…

What is now interesting in the world of Propaganda is the
scramble to re-plan the “Dirty Bomb” attack which they were
pre-programming the masses to accept without question.
The long-planned attack on Iran just became a little
    more complicated.
They will need to frame the story differently, add some new
wrinkles. Nobody much is talking about DU weapons lately.
General Electric is losing billions in stock value.
China would probably volunteer a million human carcasses to
fill the reactor vessel before sand and concrete was poured on top of them.

Good point, this is not a suitcase size dirty bomb (20lbs). that could radiate half of the states but these are multi the size of buildings with multi grades of highly toxic radiations (100 of tons) that terrorist supposedly could never get their hands on.

..alot of reactors.. alot of spent fuel..alot of lying…
..the math ain’t hard.. our government will cover the truth.
..whether the American are going to be harmed (seems like all that really matters)is still in question…its evident some radioactive material will woft this way..
..the disaster for the Japanese is beyond profound and sad.
….the MSM is so obvious…first we have 4-5 reactors falling its bumped down.. for another lousy involvement by the US in another country’s business…for oil.
Never thought there would be anything in common between Japan and the GOM?…
    try GRIEF.

Arnie Gundersen has released a statement that the Japanese have admitted that their reading were flawed. New data: Radiation over twice what they first reported. Way beyond any Chernobyl! The worst disaster in human history. PERIOD!
    Peace out!

Check out Dutchsinse on youtube and his road trip from St. Louis to California and his daily geiger counter readings posted regularly. You will know that there is sufficient radiation to kill just floating around in the air over America. Check out Laureen Moret, Chris Busby, and Arnie Gundersen on youtube. Then, get ready to face devastation in the near future as the cancer rate will soar and birth defects will outrageous.
    Peace out!

Who is this AFU character? Some goof-ball from the ozone? or what! Get your head out of your ass and kiss mine! You idiot! If you think there is no threat of radiation poisoning, you’re nuts! It’s a no-brainer, which you are!
My dear friends, ignore this podunk and try to keep your wits as you continue to prepare for the effects as they manifest. Blindness has nothing to do with truth!
I apologize to you, my friends, for my insolence, but to AFU there is no apology offered.
    Peace out!
