Samples taken 100 miles offshore Tampa for baseline tests

USF: Underwater oil came from BP well, WTSP Tampa Bay, July 23, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. EDT:

[O]il was found suspended at depths of 400 meters and 1,000 to 1,400 meters beneath the Gulf’s surface…

The 400-meter layer was approximately 30 meters (100 feet) thick, and was observed 45 nautical miles north-northeast of the Deepwater Horizon site.

The layer at 1,000 to 1,400 meters was observed approximately 24 nautical miles east of the Deepwater Horizon site. …

The article added that scientists have gathered “baseline water quality and food web samples” from waters “north of Tampa and west about 100 miles off the coast.”
