Texas marshes “fouled” by oil, tar balls; Crews unable to clean wildlife refuge due to high water

Origins of Texas tar balls remain a mystery, Houston Chronicle, July 9, 2010:

[O]fficials found oil-covered plants and some tar balls washing ashore from High Island near the Bolivar Peninsula to the McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge, an ecologically fragile stretch of the Texas coast.

Cleanup crews, however, have limited access to the fouled marshes because of high water, Brown said.
