Patrols provide early oil alert, The Citizen (Key West), June 8, 2010:

The state and federal governments are stepping up monitoring efforts to detect oil slicks, sheens and tar balls off Florida, and have dispatched two ships to patrol the waters off the Florida Keys and Dry Tortugas. ... The two vessels will run along paths north of the Tortugas ...

[A] University of South Florida computer model and satellite images show two small, but separate, patches of oil were in the Florida Straits south of Key West on Sunday.

The areas to be patrolled include a section off the Tortugas that the National Marine Fisheries Service briefly closed to fishing last week due to concerns of oil contamination.
